Volunteering in the UAE: How to Sign Up on Volunteers.ae and With Dubai's Volunteering Center
In summary
Volunteers.ae is the UAE's national volunteering platform, run since 2017 by the Ministry of Community Empowerment and Emirates Foundation; volunteers sign up with an account or UAE Pass and upload a photo, passport pages and Emirates ID. Under-18s need parent or guardian consent. Hours count only when recorded through the platform, which issues certificates. In Dubai, the Community Development Authority runs the Dubai Volunteering Center, and Dubai's 2018 volunteering law requires prior permission for volunteer work.
Key takeaways
- Volunteers.ae is the national platform; register with an account or UAE Pass, using Chrome on a computer.
- Have a photo, passport first and last pages, and Emirates ID (front and back) ready; under-18s need guardian approval.
- Only hours recorded through Volunteers.ae count towards accredited hours and certificates.
- Dubai's Community Development Authority runs the Dubai Volunteering Center for individuals and companies.
- Dubai's 2018 volunteering law requires prior permission for volunteer work and CDA clearance for fundraising.
Volunteers.ae, the UAE's national volunteering platform, has run since 2017 as a partnership between the Ministry of Community Empowerment and Emirates Foundation. It is open to Emirati citizens and UAE residents of all nationalities, and volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent.
In Dubai there is also a government centre for volunteering, run by the Community Development Authority (CDA). This guide covers how to register with each, what documents to have ready, and the rules that apply in Dubai.

Registering on Volunteers.ae
The platform's FAQ asks you to use a computer with Google Chrome. The steps are:
- Choose the option to log in as a volunteer.
- Create an account or sign up with UAE Pass.
- Complete your profile and upload the required documents.
Gulf News's January 2026 walkthrough adds that the sign-up form asks for your full name, nationality, date of birth, Emirates ID number, email, mobile number and emirate of residence, and that you verify your email and phone number before applying.
Documents to have ready (per the Volunteers.ae FAQ):
- A personal photo
- Passport copy, first page
- Passport copy, last page showing your unified number
- Emirates ID, front and back
- Parent or guardian approval, if you are under 18
To find a role, use "explore opportunities" and filter by emirate, organisation, category or language, then press "Apply Now". The organiser contacts you if you are shortlisted. Questions can go to the national helpline, 800-VOLAE (86523), listed on the government portal u.ae.
Why logging hours matters
Volunteers.ae issues accredited volunteering hours and a certificate of participation. Its FAQ says hours count only when the activity is completed and recorded through the platform, so sign up for roles there rather than turning up informally.
Recorded hours can matter later. Khaleej Times, citing the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), reports that distinguished humanitarian volunteers with at least five years or 500 volunteer hours are among the categories eligible for the 10-year Golden Visa. Check the current criteria with ICP before relying on this.
Dubai Volunteering Center
The CDA's centre lists volunteering opportunities in Dubai, including at events, at cda.gov.ae/DubaiVolunteer, and both individuals and companies can register, according to u.ae and Khaleej Times.
The rules in Dubai
Volunteering in the UAE is governed by Federal Law No. 13 of 2018, and Gulf News advises getting involved through registered charities and approved organisations. Dubai has its own volunteering law, announced in April 2018. As Gulf News reported in 2019, it requires prior permission for volunteer work, CDA clearance for fundraising, health and safety measures from organising associations, ID cards for volunteers and records of their work. If you want to set up your own group, for a clean-up for example, contact the CDA first.
Before you sign up
- Have your Emirates ID and passport scans ready as image files.
- If you are under 18, get your parent or guardian's written approval first.
- If you volunteer in your professional field, Gulf News notes you may need the relevant professional licence.
- Looking for outdoor roles? See our guide to beach clean-ups in Dubai, or browse community groups in our Directory.
For general information. Platforms and rules can change; check with Volunteers.ae or the Community Development Authority before relying on them.
