Step challenges have become one of the most common ways residents take part. Here is how to register and how the step drives work.
Registering for the challenge
- Sign up free at dubaifitnesschallenge.com.
- Aim for 30 minutes of activity a day for 30 days. Walking, running, yoga, padel and team sports all count, according to Gulf News.
- Register separately for flagship events such as Dubai Run on 22 November, as registration opens for each.
The 2026 edition is the 10th; Khaleej Times reports more than 16 million participants across the first nine. Three free Fitness Villages and more than 23 Community Fitness Hubs run across the city for the month, with what organisers describe as thousands of free classes and activities. Our Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026 explainer lists all four flagship events.
How step challenges work
Most step challenges in Dubai follow the same pattern: you download an app, join a named challenge, let it read steps from your phone or wearable, and earn rewards at set milestones. The organiser is usually an app operator working with a developer, employer, mall or government body, and the terms are theirs.

Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism said 16 fitness apps joined the 2025 Dubai Fitness Challenge as partners. The official site lists current partners on its App partners page; offers change each year.
Before you sign up
- Registering for the Dubai Fitness Challenge doesn't sign you up for any step challenge; each one needs its own app and account.
- Read what data the app collects before you link a wearable. Our guide to fitness tracker data explains what to check.
- Check the dates: steps usually count only inside the challenge window.
- Walking routes and run clubs are listed in our Directory.
For general information. Challenge details can change; check dubaifitnesschallenge.com or the organiser before relying on them.
