Dubai's Public Beaches at Sunrise and Sunset

Key takeaways

Three Dubai public beaches, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1, are lit for swimming from sunset to sunrise, with lifeguards on duty, under a Dubai Municipality scheme launched in May 2023. Each night-swimming stretch is 800m long. Gulf News reported in April 2026 that visitors to the three beaches rose from about 1 million in 2024 to nearly 2 million the following year.

Early mornings and evenings

For a walk or run as the light changes, the beaches with dedicated tracks are the easiest: Kite Beach, Jumeirah 2 and 3, Al Mamzar Lagoon Beach, and the jogging track at The Beach opposite JBR. Al Sufouh Beach, between Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah, has a walking area near Madinat Jumeirah; it is about a 10-minute taxi ride from Dubai Internet City or Mashreq Metro station. Dubai Islands Beach is the city's first pet-friendly beach, with a 460 sq m leash-free dog park.

Night swimming rules

Dubai Municipality asks night swimmers to:

The night zones have lighting, screens showing safety messages and surveillance systems.

Jumeirah Beach 1, rebuilt

Dubai Municipality's redevelopment of Jumeirah Beach 1 was more than 95% complete in January 2026 and due to reopen in early February. The 1,400m beach has upgraded restrooms, showers and changing rooms, pedestrian, cycling and jogging paths, car and bus parking with EV charging, Wi-Fi, electronic information displays, smart lockers and AI-assisted rescue monitoring linked to municipal control rooms.

What's coming

Gulf News reported in February 2026 that a AED 500 million plan for Umm Suqeim Beach, covering 3.1km of beachfront and about 2,400 parking spaces, was approved that month, and that Al Mamzar's programme includes a 300m beach for 24-hour night swimming and a women-only beach. Dubai's 2030 plan aims to grow public beach length from about 21km to 105km.
